Pet owners are getting ready for the 10th annual ‘Take Your Dog to Work Day’ on June 26, the one day when they are allowed to take their dogs to work with them.
The day “was created to celebrate the great companions dogs make and to encourage their adoption” by letting non-owners witness the bond between dog and man, says a Web site promoting the occasion.
“In today’s economy, pet adoption is the most eco-friendly and budget-conscious option for finding your next four-legged best friend,” the New York Daily News quoted Patti Moran, president of Pet Sitters International, which came up with the event, as saying.
Moran revealed that thousands of small and midsize companies are expected to participate, as well as some large ones, like Johnson and Johnson and Disney.
The day is not an official holiday, but New Yorkers who have done it in past years say the day’s great fun.
Tina Park, 30, of Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, works as a designer at the Chelsea offices of Johnson and Johnson and brings her Yorkie-Terrier mix, Gangang, 2, there every day.
“It’s very therapeutic to come over and pet him, and it’s good for the dog,” she said.
“He’s the office stress-reliever,” she added.
