A 50 year old woman in a northern suburb of Bangkok has been diagnosed with the deadly bird flu. Thailand’s 20th victim of the disease since 2003, a health official said Monday.
The woman fell ill a day after helping clean a chicken coop.
Thirteen Thais have died of bird flu since the H5N1 virus struck in late 2003 and the woman was the third person to have caught bird flu in Thailand this year.
Her husband, still looking healthy, was being quarantined while awaiting test results.
Earlier this month, a Thai man died of the disease after he slaughtered an infected chicken and ate it. His son also caught it but is now healthy after spending a few days in hospital.
