Pet suffers in the same way as children when we break up
Never ignore the sentiment of your pet, they are very emotional and the relationship though seems to be simple but it is more complex than we thought.
I have seen pets jumps between their owners to stop fights and quarrels and some times they would run to a corner or under the bed, while shaking from extreme anxiety.
Most pets dislike their owners fighting , they always looks for a peaceful life, full of familiar and reassuring daily routines such as eating, sleeping and playing.
Now, an animal charity has revealed that extreme emotional upheaval, such as when couples break up, can trigger obsessive and compulsive disorders in their pets, who suffer in the same way as young children.
When their owners split, pets can develop serious nervous symptoms and have even been known to self-harm, according to vets at the Peoples Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA).
According to Sean Wensley, senior vet at PDSA, dogs that are stressed can show signs of compulsive disorder. This may include chasing their own tail or excessive licking of one or more limbs. As a result of such licking, the area can become raw and itchy, which in turn leads to further licking or chewing.
Cats can be prone to ‘wool sucking’ which, as the term suggests, involves sucking or chewing on woollen items such as blankets. Even parrots, pull out their own feathers after losing a mate or experiencing some other type of trauma, he also added that not only cats, dogs and parrots, other species can also show signs of stress.
Leading UK veterinary charity, the PDSA (Peoples Dispensary for Sick Animals, is now urging owners to make the well-being of their pets a central part of the process of agreeing a separation.
