Lost Pet Hotline is Urgently Looking for More Volunteers
After nearly two decades helping pet owners reunite with their lost animals, a local nonprofit organization is asking for a little help of its own, in the form of volunteers.
Elizabeth “Liz” Airheart started the hotline out of her home with two other volunteers in 1987 and received about 5,000 calls from residents with lost or found animals just in that first year.
The Lost Pet Hotline serves Coastal Bend residents free by tracking phone calls about lost animals and matching those with calls about animals that have been found. Volunteers also cross-reference information in their files with weekly reports from the city of Corpus Christi’s Animal Care Services department.

Tips to find a lost pet
# Contact the Lost Pet Hotline to give a detailed description of the animal’s breed, hair color, sex, any distinctive markings and the nearest major intersection where the animal was last seen.
# Search the area where the animal was last seen and post signs as soon as possible.
# Visit area shelters and Animal Care Services.
# Place a recently worn piece of your clothing in your yard. For cats, place the litter box outside. Familiar scents often help pets find their way home.
# If you find your pet, contact the Lost Pet Hotline.
