Pet Catfish Unable to Survive
A 52-pound catfish that went from trophy catch to family pet has died, unable to adjust to life in a backyard pond in the Pickens County town of Six Mile.
Clarence Reid caught the fish during a fishing trip at Lake Hartwell earlier this month. The fish was placed in a 2,100 gallon decorative yard pond with a waterfall, but the fish died just days later.
Reid says his family had a funeral for the fish.
He says he’s trying to catch a bigger catfish. The state record flathead catfish weighed 79 pounds and was caught in the Santee Diversion Canal in 2001.
