Can Bird Flu Spread Through Pet Foods
Pet Food Manufacturers’ Association, the principal trade body for the UK pet food industry, has issued a statement on April 10, 2006 reassuring pet owners that their animals are not at risk from bird flu being carried in processed pet foods.
In light of recent avian flu developments PFMA is very much aware about the fact that consumers might be concerned about their health, and the health of their pet.
The PFMA reassures consumers that avian flu does not pose a risk to the safety of processed pet food. Avian Flu viruses are killed at 70°C, processed pet foods are heated to a minimum temperature of 90°C.
Pet owners feeding a processed pet food can have complete confidence they are providing a safe and nutritious diet for their pet.
